Be Charming In Full-Skirted Dresses

While a mini hemline or a curve-conscious silhouette has some serious sex appeal, there's something equally eye-catching (and sweeter) about a ladylike look. Perfect for party dress, full-skirted frocks with cinched waists feel ultra-feminine and flatter just about everyone. Take a cue from this gorgeous celebrity lineup: Jessica Alba proves even metallics look amazingly ladylike in Thakoon, while Taylor Swift gives us all-out retro glamour in a scarlet-red Oscar de la Renta. Meanwhile, Miranda Kerr channels a little vintage romance in a floral-printed Louis Vuitton.

Part retro, all glamour — full-skirted dresses are taking over the red carpet on some of our favourite celebrities. Style stars like Taylor Swift, Dianna Agron, and Jessica Alba are embracing the feminine fit and flare shape in every form. From the red-carpet-ready versions to the pared-down and pretty for every day, the trend is one we're particularly fond of for this season. Nothing looks more classically ladylike than a full-skirted dress, bare legs and sweet heels to tie it all together.

Michelle Obama is a huge fan of the full-skirted silhouette, and she wears it in everything from dresses (like the green print dress, pictured) to separates. The First Lady favors a very flattering length for her height -- just below the knee -- and it looks fantastic on her.

Petite frames, like Sarah Jessica Parker, can pull of the full skirt silhouette. But it works best in sophisticated styles like this soft goddess-look dress. Avoid anything too short or little girly (especially over 40) on smaller women or you'll ridiculous.

Jessica Chastain shows off the shape in a brilliant McQueen frock.

Jessica Chastain stepped out in an ornate take on the trend in a full-skirted Alexander McQueen frock for the Elle Style Awards.

Katharine McPhee showed off a charming cap-sleeved LWD, complete with a full skirt.

Amber heads a full-skirted dress. She looks really charming.
